IPSIS Residents, Fellows, and other members in their first two years of practice have a seat on the Early Career Council. As a member of the Council, you can participate in webinars designed to address your unique challenges. Actively participating is an excellent way to enrich your professional development and lay the foundation for a successful and fulfilling medical career.

Council Offerings



Watch our all-star faculty share how to raise your profile and get started in interventional pain medicine research.

Your panel included:

  • Robert Burnham, MD, of Vivo Cura Health in Calgary, Alberta, Canada;
  • Alison Stout, DO, an attending physician at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, who serves as President of IPSIS and as a member of the Education Development Committee; and
  • Patricia Zheng, MD, Chief of the PM&R Division at University of California San Francisco, who serves as Research Division Chair, Research Mentorship Committee Chair, and as a Patient Safety Committee member.

The panel was moderated by Taylor R. Burnham, DO, of Vivo Cura Health in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, who serves as a member of the Research Division and the EBM Training Committee.

IPSIS Members, watch “Leveling Up: Succeeding as an Attending Physician,” the Early Career Council’s free Post-Fellowship Guide webinar on securing the “right” contract and nailing that first critical year as an attending interventional pain medicine physician.


Early Career Council members attending the IPSIS 2026 Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. have an opportunity to sign up for these sessions which offer one-on-one, in-person time with an IPSIS Board member.


Registration for Washington, D.C. micro mentoring sessions will open in the Summer of 2026.


Designed to support professional growth by providing hands-on training in lumbar procedures, up to three complinentary seats will be available for early career members to ain invaluable experience from expert instructors at the Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab to be held in Washington D.C., immediately following the IPSIS 2026 Annual Meeting

Each year a limited number of Council leadership positions are available.

  • Ambassador: Council Ambassadors perform serve on an IPSIS Committee or Division in a non-voting capacity to provide their views and to report to the rest of the Council
  • Executive Committee: The Council’s Executive Committee performs governance, steering, and administrative functions, and maintain communication with the executive leadership of IPSIS.

The leadership application period will open in the Summer of 2026. Watch for details.



The ECC Chair is Alexandra Fogarty, MD, who serves on the IPSIS Board as an Early Career Physician. Dr. Fogarty liaises with Scott Naftulin, DO, who serves on the IPSIS Board as Member Engagement Division, and Vinil Shah, MD, who serves on the IPSIS Board and its Executive Committee in the position of Secretary.
