IPSIS Awards

This award was established in 2014 and named after Charles Aprill, MD, a founding member of the Society who dedicated his life’s work to research on the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders. As one of the pillars of the interventional spine field, Dr. Aprill was recognized for his influence on the field, outstanding service, and dedication as a teacher.


The Aprill Award is presented to IPSIS members who have made significant career-spanning contributions to the field of interventional pain medicine. The recipients represent the most influential minds who have made a lasting imprint on the Society and the field. The Aprill Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest distinction that IPSIS bestows.

This award was established in 2017 and named after Richard Derby, MD, a founding member of the Society. Dr. Derby is an innovative researcher and distinguished clinician who, through his tireless service, advances the interventional pain field.


The Derby Award is presented to IPSIS members who have distinguished themselves within the Society through their exemplary volunteer service in the advancement of the interventional pain field and the best interest of patients.
