UHC Expands Neurostim Coverage

Tuesday, January 18, 2022

Effective March 2022, United Healthcare will expand indications for implanted electrical spinal cord stimulators.

This change comes after IPSIS and 11 other medical society members of the Multisociety Pain Workgroup (MPW) submitted a comment letter to UHC urging the insurer to revise their policy.

The expanded spinal cord stimulator coverage indications will include complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), diabetic neuropathy, and failed back surgery syndrome. The policy also outlines changes to include coverage of dorsal root ganglion stimulation for treating refractory CRPS I and CRPS II. Read the full policy here.
