WA HTCC Rejects Coverage for VKS

Tuesday, February 4, 2025

On January 31, 2025, Dr. Scott Kreiner represented IPSIS members by testifying before the Washington State Health Technology Clinical Committee (WA HTCC) to advocate for coverage of vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and sacroplasty (VKS) procedures.

Dr. Kreiner’s testimony highlighted evidence for VKS and identified deficiencies in the state’s technology assessment. Despite these efforts, the HTCC ultimately voted against coverage for VKS, citing insufficient evidence that these procedures provide a meaningful impact on patients and patient care compared to other evidence-based treatment alternatives.

IPSIS disagrees with this decision and remains committed to advocating for patient access to VKS procedures. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and engage in ongoing advocacy efforts to promote appropriate patient access to interventional pain procedures.
