IPSIS Endorses Legislation to Streamline Prior Authorization

Tuesday, June 18, 2024

IPSIS recently endorsed the Improving Seniors Timely Access to Care Act, a piece of legislation aimed to address the obstacles created by insurers' prior authorization (PA) practices.

This Act focuses on modifying prior authorization requirements related to health insurance for senior Americans, to reduce delays in accessing care within the Medicare Advantage (MA) program. The Seniors' Act will implement an electronic PA process for MA plans, increase transparency around MA prior authorization requirements and their usage, and require health agencies to report to Congress on the program’s efforts.

The Improving Seniors' Timely Access to Care Act was unanimously passed by the House in the last Congress and was co-sponsored by a majority of Senate and House members. Over 370 state and national organizations, alongside IPSIS, supported this legislation.
