Facet LCD Comments

Monday, April 1, 2024

On March 21, 2024, IPSIS suggested two revisions to the draft Local Coverage Determination (LCD) on Facet Joint Interventions for Pain Management recently issued by various Medicare Administrative Contractors.

  • Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF): To reduce the risk of inappropriate coverage denials, IPSIS requested clarification of the language addressing facet joint procedures that occur post-ALIF.
  • Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA): IPSIS proposed revisions to address a discrepancy between the covered indications and limitations concerning medial branch blocks (MBB) following successful radiofrequency ablation (RFA) procedures.
