IPSIS Seeks Clarity on ESI Requirements from Medicare

Thursday, October 12, 2023

On September 29, 2023, IPSIS submitted a letter 🔒 to Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) requesting clarification on documentation requirements set forth in Billing and Coding: Epidural Steroid Injections for Pain Management.

The request stems from concerns about the lack of differentiation between selective nerve root blocks (SNRBs) and transforaminal epidural steroid injections (TESIs), which causes confusion among healthcare providers.

We propose a revision to the documentation requirement to avoid confusion about different requirements for SNRBs and TESIs and facilitate appropriate reimbursement.
