Cigna Urged to Revise Coverage Criteria for BVNRFA

Tuesday, August 15, 2023

On July 31, IPSIS submitted a letter 🔒 to Cigna suggesting revisions to their coverage criteria for intraosseous basivertebral nerve radiofrequency ablation (BVNRFA).

The letter outlines the importance of recognizing that chronic vertebrogenic low back pain often impacts multiple vertebral bodies, and requests authorization for up to three vertebral body treatments when medically necessary. IPSIS also raises concerns about Cigna's requirement of three or more cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) sessions before the procedure.
