IPSIS Joins Pain Societies in Urging BCBS of Tennessee to Cover Peripheral Nerve Stimulation

Tuesday, August 8, 2023

On June 16, 2023, IPSIS and three other medical specialty societies submitted a letter to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee raising concerns surrounding their draft medical policy, "Implantable Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) Devices as a Treatment for Pain." The letter highlights the significance of incorporating PNS devices as a crucial treatment option for patients experiencing persistent and chronic pain. It also encourages alignment with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain, which emphasizes the reduction of long-term opioid use.
