IPSIS Advocates for Revision of Genicular Nerve Ablation Prior Authorization Requirement

Monday, July 17, 2023

On July 14, 2023, IPSIS submitted a letter 🔒to Humana in response to a new prior authorization requirement for genicular nerve ablation. It is expected that patients should experience 50% or greater pain relief for three months following their initial injection before a subsequent injection can be considered medically necessary. However, IPSIS has identified a significant discrepancy between this requirement and the standard practice surrounding genicular nerve blocks. The letter requests a revision of the requirement to ensure patients have appropriate access to interventional pain procedures without encountering unnecessary obstacles.
