Defending SIJ RFA Coverage

Friday, October 14, 2022

IPSIS is urgently working to reverse Palmetto GBA’s proposed classification of SIJ radiofrequency ablation as medically unnecessary. We have convened the Multisociety Pain Workgroup (MPW) to submit a letter proposing coverage criteria and presenting supporting evidence to combat the proposed Local Coverage Determination (LCD) and ensure appropriate access for Medicare patients.

IPSIS will be coordinating similar MPW responses in the coming weeks to the other Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC) who are issuing similar determinations. IPSIS members are encouraged to share this and future letters with any CAC members who will be participating in the upcoming MAC meetings.

IPSIS-led MPW collaborations provide a unified voice in advocating on behalf of all interventional pain physicians and the patients they treat. Help sustain this vital advocacy with your donations. The International Pain and Spine Intervention Society (IPSIS) is a tax exempt organization under US section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
