Congress Must Reform Medicare Physician Payment by End of 2022

Thursday, September 29, 2022

On September 22, 2022, IPSIS joined the American Medical Association (AMA) and other medical societies in submitting a letter to Congress regarding upcoming reductions in physician payments. The letter requests that, prior to scheduled Medicare payment cuts taking effect in 2023, Congress:

  • Provide relief from the scheduled 4.42% budget neutrality cut in Medicare physician fee schedule payments.
  • End the statutory annual freeze and provide a Medicare Economic Index (MEI) update for 2023.
  • Extend the 5% Advanced Alternative Payment Model (AAPM) participation incentive and halt the impossible-to-meet revenue threshold increase for five years to encourage more physicians to transition from fee-for-service into APMs.
  • Waive the 4% Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) sequester triggered by passage of the American Rescue Plan Act.
