IPSIS and 10 Other Societies Urge United Healthcare to Cover C2-3 RF Neurotomy

Friday, August 12, 2022

IPSIS and 10 other specialty societies submitted comments to United Healthcare’s (UHC) Medical Policy team advocating for access to radiofrequency neurotomy for the treatment of pain arising from the C2-3 facet joint. While the current UHC coverage policy provides coverage for medial branch blocks and radiofrequency neurotomy (RFN) at C3-4 and below, the C2-3 joint (specifically, third occipital nerve blocks and RFN) is excluded. The letter and supporting documents outline the evidence supporting recommendations that UHC expand the coverage policy to include C2-3 diagnostic blocks and RFN.
