Louisiana Interventional Pain Practice Restrictions Paused By IPSIS Advocacy
Wednesday, May 11, 2022

On May 11, 2022, an IPSIS led 8-medical-society-response and outreach from IPSIS members in Louisiana succeeded in giving members of the Louisiana legislature
pause about proceeding with consideration of Louisiana House Bill 941 which would prohibit interventional pain physicians from performing
minimally invasive fusion procedures.
At the request of the bill sponsor, Representative John Illg, Jr., the Louisiana House of Representatives’ Health and Welfare Committee unanimously agreed to temporarily defer consideration of the
bill to allow time to study the issues and its implications.
Let’s not let this temporary reprieve lull us into passivity. Louisiana physicians are strongly urged to follow this link: https://legis.la.gov/legis/FindMyLegislators.aspx to reach out to your representatives to oppose the expected future consideration of HB 941. Continue to share your patient success stories to illustrate the role interventional pain physicians play in performing these procedures.
IPSIS
will continue to monitor the situation and also asks you to share new developments by emailing IPSIS at advocacy@IPSISmed.org.
The IPSIS comment letter highlights the value of and the evidence for specific interventional procedures to help patients avoid, reduce, and discontinue reliance on opioid
therapy.

IPSIS-led collaborative advocacy provide a unified voice in advocating on behalf of all interventional pain physicians and the patients they treat. Help sustain this vital advocacy with
your donations. The International Pain and Spine Intervention Society (IPSIS) is a tax exempt organization under US section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. As such, contributions are deductible to the extent allowed by law.
