Interspinous Spacer Device Coverage

The International Pain and Spine Intervention Society convened the Multisociety Pain Workgroup (MPW) to urge Medicare Advantage (MA) plans to cover the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis with interspinous spacer devices (ISD) in appropriately selected patients.

IPSIS and 7 other MPW medical societies jointly signed the letters below, which contain:

• information on lumbar spinal stenosis treatment strategies, and
  
• summaries of the best available evidence on the safety and effectiveness of ISD.
  

You are strongly encouraged to share these evidence-based letters with your respective MA plans when encountering ISD coverage denials.
