Message from Matthew Smuck, MD, on behalf of the IPSIS Board of Directors
Dear IPSIS Members,
We are delighted to announce that the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society has secured an agreement with a prestigious publisher, Elsevier, to launch our brand-new scientific journal: Interventional Pain Medicine (IPM).
This new journal is a monumental step forward for IPSIS and will allow us to build upon our strong foundation of supporting quality science and our reputation for producing trustworthy evidence-based publications. The IPSIS membership includes the most preeminent clinicians and academicians whose publications are the basis for evidence-informed interventional pain care. Interventional Pain Medicine will, at last, provide an intellectual home for our members and researchers while cementing our position as the leader in the interventional pain field
Interventional Pain Medicine will be a gold open access journal, and IPSIS is currently formulating plans to provide financial assistance to IPSIS members submitting publications. Our esteemed members’ support and submissions will be crucial to ensuring our journal’s success.
Additionally, it is our honor to announce that the IPSIS Board of Directors has appointed Milan Stojanovic, MD, as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of Interventional Pain Medicine.
Dr. Stojanovic completed his post-doctoral residency education, consisting of internal medicine, pediatrics, anesthesiology, and a pain management fellowship, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School where he was also the principal founder of the Interventional Pain Program and served as its director for 12 years. He also served as the Chief of Pain Medicine, Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and the Pain Medicine Service at the VA Boston Healthcare System where he is currently teaching and practicing in addition to his role as Director of Interventional Pain Medicine at the Bedford VA Hospital.
Dr. Stojanovic is an internationally esteemed expert and had the unique experience of training and mentoring many respected leaders in the field of interventional pain for the last 26 years. He has served as the chair of the IPSIS Standards Division and in this role served on the IPSIS Board of Directors. He is the chair of the Educational Committee and an examiner for the World Institute of Pain’s (WIP) Fellow in Interventional Pain Practice Examination.
Most importantly, based on his extensive experience on the editorial boards of several pain medicine journals, including serving as Spine Section Co-Editor for Pain Medicine, he has a clear vision for the new journal and demonstrates a strong commitment to the work ahead.
We are confident that Dr. Stojanovic’s experience, reputation, and passion will result in great success for Interventional Pain Medicine – the new IPSIS journal!
