Corticosteroid Injections and Adenovirus Vector-Based COVID-19 Vaccines

Monday, April 12, 2021

Our newest IPSIS FactFinder provides guidance on the timing of elective corticosteroid injections around Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines. For these adenovirus vector-based vaccines, IPSIS recommends timing injections no less than two weeks prior to and no less than two weeks following vaccine administration, when possible. Because patient-specific factors certainly vary, IPSIS unequivocally emphasizes the importance of risk/benefit analyses and shared decision-making when weighing the timing of epidural and intraarticular corticosteroid injections in patients receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.
