IPSIS Joins Opposition to Medicare Redefining Psychologists as Physicians

Wednesday, September 23, 2020
On September 22, 2020, IPSIS along with nearly 90 medical specialty societies provided comments to U.S. Congressional representatives opposing H.R. 884/S. 2772, the “Medicare Mental Health Access Act,” which would change the definition of “physician” under the Medicare program to include clinical psychologists. The proposal puts patient safety at risk by allowing psychologists to offer services they are not trained to perform.
