IPSIS Urges Aetna to Cover Third Occipital Nerve Denervation

On November 13, 2019, IPSIS suggested revisions to Aetna’s coverage policy on Headaches – Invasive Procedures. The Society’s comments recommend coverage of third occipital nerve (C2-3) radiofrequency neurotomy treatment for cervicogenic headache and occipital neuralgia and provides a detailed summary of the evidence of effectiveness in appropriately selected patients.
