IPSIS Supports House Bill to Protect Patients from Delayed Care by Streamlining Prior Authorization

Monday, September 16, 2019
On September 9, 2019, the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society joined the AMA and 367 other health care stakeholder organizations in submitting a letter of supportin favor of the bipartisan legislation Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act of 2019 (H.R. 3107), introduced by Reps. Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Mike Kelly (R-PA), Roger Marshall, MD (R-KS), and Ami Bera, MD (D-CA). This legislation would help protect patients from unnecessary delays in care by streamlining and standardizing prior authorization under the Medicare Advantage program.

The legislation would facilitate electronic prior authorization, improve transparency for beneficiaries and providers, and increase the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) oversight of Medicare Advantage programs’ use of prior authorization.
