IPSIS Advocates for Providence Health Assurance to Cover Lateral Branch Radiofrequency Neurotomy

Wednesday, June 26, 2019
On June 25, IPSIS submitted comments 🔒to Providence Health Assurance regarding their policies Facet Joint Injections, Medial Branch Blocks, and Facet Joint Radiofrequency Joint Neurotomy; and Radiofrequency Ablation for Persistent Facet Pain. The policies exclude coverage for thermal radiofrequency ablation of the sacroiliac joint, also referred to as lateral branch radiofrequency neurotomy (LBRFN), classifying it as medically unnecessary. The Society recommends that the procedure is an appropriate treatment for suitably selected patients, based on the IPSIS-convened multispecialty collaborative-endorsed set of appropriate use criteria for sacroiliac interventions.

IPSIS also submitted these comments 🔒to Maximus Federal Services, a Medicare appeals contractor on behalf of a member who requested assistance. Advocacy on behalf of IPSIS members is an important benefit of IPSIS membership.
