IPSIS and Many Others Urge CMS to Provide Prior Authorization Guidance to Medicare Advantage Plans

IPSIS, along with nearly 100 national and state medical specialty societies, joined the American Medical Association (AMA) in sending a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) urging them to provide guidance to Medicare Advantage (MA) plans on prior authorization (PA) processes. The letter specifically suggests that CMS require MA plans to selectively apply PA requirements and provide guidance to help promote safe, timely, and affordable access to care for patients; enhance efficiency; and reduce administrative burden on physician practices.
