IPSIS Suggests Coverage of Sacroiliac Joint Denervation to Humana, Florida Blue, and BCBS of NJ

Friday, January 11, 2019
On January 7, 2019, the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society (IPSIS) issued comment letters to Florida Blue , Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, and Humana in response to coverage policies that exclude coverage for radiofrequency of the sacroiliac joint. These policies describe the treatment, also referred to as lateral branch radiofrequency neurotomy (LBRFN), as an investigational procedure. IPSIS recommends that the procedure is an appropriate treatment for suitably selected patients, based on the IPSIS-convened multispecialty collaborative-endorsed set of appropriate use criteria for sacroiliac interventions.
