SIS Finds Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield RFN Coverage Policy Lacking, Suggests Improvements

On October 6, SIS submitted comments to Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield on their coverage policy for percutaneous radiofrequency neurotomy (RFN) of the medial branches in the treatment of zygapophysial joint pain. SIS commented that the requirement that “the absence of nerve root compression is documented in the medical record on history, physical, and radiographic evaluations” is not appropriate.
