Curriculum

DURING LAB ROTATIONS, VETTED EXPERT INSTRUCTORS WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH HIGH-QUALITY HANDS-ON TRAINING IN GROUPS OF UP TO 6 ATTENDEES ON:

  • Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar:
    • Transforaminal Injections
    • Intra-articular Zygapophysial Joint Injections
    • Interlaminar Epidural Injections
    • Medial Branch Blocks
    • Disc Access
    • Radiofrequency Neurotomy (RFN)
    • C1-C2 Atlanto-Axial Joint Injections

  • Genicular Nerve RFN

This course contains hands-on lab instruction only; no lectures are provided.

    IPSIS is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

    ACCME accreditation seeks to ensure that education is relevant to clinicians’ needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence.

Attendance Requirements

Who May Attend

  • Registration is open to International Pain and Spine Intervention Society members who are board-certified or in the examination process for certification in: Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Radiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

  • Current certification in Pain Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

  • Members who are not board-certified or eligible for certification in these specialties must have either completed or be currently enrolled in a pain fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Pain, or NASS-recognized Pain, Spine/MSK Fellowship Program, and are encouraged to begin education with IPSIS with the Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab.
  • Physicians residing outside of the United States and Canada who are interested in diagnostic and/or therapeutic pain intervention procedures.

Attendee Preparation
You can expect an email from the Society at least one week before the course. This message will contain educational and logistical information that we encourage you to review prior to attending. Upon completion of the course, you will also receive access to the final versions of the lectures that were presented.

Everyone attending our courses should be familiar with the IPSIS Technical Manual, which is focused on describing and visually depicting the optimal performance of interventional pain procedures, and the IPSIS Practice Guidelines which remains the ultimate reference for procedural rationale and supporting literature.

Cancellation Policy

The International Pain and Spine Intervention Society requires cancellation at least 21 days prior to the course to receive a refund less a $150 administrative fee. Cancellation less than 21 days prior will result in forfeiture of all fees. IPSIS reserves the right to cancel this event due to circumstances beyond its control. The Society assumes no financial obligation to registrants for possible costs incurred.

Educational Objectives/CME Credits

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Analyze the imaging depiction of the relevant anatomy;
  • Relate patient history and physical exam findings with imaging to achieve a likely diagnosis of the spinal pathology causing the patient’s pain or dysfunction;
  • Describe the literature support for the efficacy of the procedures;
  • Identify the risks and benefits of each procedure, as well as assessment, prevention, and treatment of potential complications;
  • Apply technically correct performance of the spinal procedures using safe fluoroscopic guidance with minimal tissue injury or discomfort.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)
The International Pain and Spine Intervention Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The International Pain and Spine Intervention Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 13 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

This activity offers up to 13 CME credits, of which 13 credits contribute the patient safety CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s redesigned Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology™ (MOCA®) program, known as MOCA 2.0®. Please consult the ABA website, theABA.org, for a list of all MOCA 2.0 requirements.

The American Medical Association has determined that physicians not licensed in the US to participate in this CME activity are eligible for 
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ .


The International Pain and Spine Intervention Society advises participants to continue to obtain proctoring, mentoring, and additional experience prior to treating patients.


Target Audience
This live activity has been designed for physicians who perform spine intervention procedures.

The International Pain and Spine Intervention Society strongly advises that members are proficient in the lumbar spine before progressing to cervical techniques and other advanced interventional procedures.

IPSIS plans and implements educational activities in accordance with Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Criteria and Standards for Integrity and Independence to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor. The FDA has stated it is the responsibility of the physician to determine the FDA status of each drug or device he or she wishes to use in clinical practice and to use these products in compliance with applicable law.
