IPSIS Opposes Prior Authorization for Facet Interventions

Wednesday, September 14, 2022

IPSIS has once again rallied the Multisociety Pain Workgroup in opposition to proposed payment policies that threaten to impede access to care for Americans suffering from pain.

On September 13, 2022, IPSIS sent a comment letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) strongly urging them to abandon a proposed prior authorization requirement for facet joint interventions in the hospital outpatient department (HOPD) setting.

The letter emphasizes the importance of access to these procedures as key alternatives to opioid prescription and urges CMS to follow the recommendation of their Opioid Taskforce to enable smooth access to facet joint interventions and other similar non-opioid treatments.
