IPSIS Opposes VA NPP Scope of Practice Expansion

Friday, January 8, 2021

IPSIS along with more than 100 medical specialty societies expressed strong opposition to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) implementation of the Interim Final Rule (IFR) entitled “Authority of VA Professionals to Practice Health Care”. The IFR permits virtually all VHA-employed non-physician providers (NPPs) to practice without the clinical supervision of physicians and without regard to state scope of practice law. The letter highlights the differences in education and training that exist for physicians and NPPs, and urges the VA to rescind the IFR to ensure our veterans receive the highest quality care from physician-led teams.
