Societies Continue to Request Appropriate Coverage of Percutaneous Vertebral Augmentation

Tuesday, March 31, 2020
On March 30, 2020, IPSIS and eleven other medical specialty societies submitted comments to Noridian LLC about a local coverage determinations (LCD) for percutaneous vertebral augmentation for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture.

The comments express concerns regarding the LCDs’ exclusion of all fractures over six weeks old from treatment and the requirement of a four-physician multidisciplinary team to determine treatment by consensus. Revisions to the policy are suggested to address these concerns. SIS and other medical specialty societies recently provided similar comments to First Coast Service Options, Inc., Novitas Solutions, National Government Services, Palmetto, Wisconsin Physician Services, and CGS Administrators on proposed LCDs for the same procedure.
