IPSIS and 10 Societies Request Appropriate Coverage of Percutaneous Vertebral Augmentation

Tuesday, December 10, 2019
On November 25, 2019, IPSIS joined ten other medical specialty societies in submitting comments to four Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) about the recently released Future Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) for Percutaneous Vertebral Augmentation for Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fracture.

The comments express concerns regarding the LCDs’ exclusion of all fractures over six weeks old from treatment and the requirement of a four-physician multidisciplinary team to determine treatment by consensus. Revisions to the policy are suggested to address these concerns.

Letters were submitted to National Government Services, Palmetto, Wisconsin Physician Services, and CGS Administrators.
