Geoffrey C. Speldewinde, MD

Dr. Geoffrey Speldewinde is a Consultant in Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine in a private community-based multidisciplinary clinic that he has established in Canberra along with psychologists, physical therapists, and other associates. In Australian terms he is a Fellow in Rehabilitation Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Professor Bogduk's Musculoskeletal Medicine after graduating from the University of Sydney in 1981. His role in the clinic focuses on the medical aspects of achieving an adequate diagnosis and management of the sensory components of pain, including utilizing the full range of interventional techniques and encouraging the emotional, cognitive, and physical aspects to be better managed by his specialist colleagues.

He is director of a Private hospital-based specialist Rehabilitation Medicine service, and has been on the Executives of The Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, Australian Pain Society including a term as President, the Board of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, and one of 6 inaugural Supervisors of Training in Procedures in Pain Medicine in Australia. He has organized several National Scientific Meetings for these organizations and published several peer-reviewed papers on Outcomes of Spine Interventions, the last providing evidence that the outcomes of thermal neurotomy when performed to best available (IPSIS) standards are not due to expectancy (placebo). He has given numerous presentations to specialist and primary care colleagues and consumers. He has been a keen member of the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society since 1992and has served on various of its committees.
