Stephan Klessinger, MD, PhD

Prof. Dr. Stephan Klessinger has been a board-certified neurosurgeon since 2004. He graduated from Freiburg (Germany) University Medical School in 1997. His PhD (Dr. med.) was written in 1997 in the field of Experimental Embryology. After university, he spent his residencies at the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Erlangen, and University of Essen, Germany.

In 2005 Prof. Klessinger started to work in a practice called “Neurosurgery Biberach”, Germany. The practice is run by two neurosurgeons specializing in spinal pain therapy and spine surgery. Patients are treated in a practice setting or in a neighboring hospital where Prof. Klessinger is a consulting neurosurgeon.

Since 2014, Dr. Klessinger has led a research group and teaches Neurosurgery at the University Ulm; since 2019, he has been Professor of Neurosurgery at Ulm University, Germany. Prof. Klessinger’s scientific interests include radiofrequency neurotomy and zygapophysial joint pain. He has published more than 40 scientific papers and is the author of book chapters and the editor of a book about spine interventions. Prof. Klessinger is a European Instructor and member of the International Division and Guidelines Committee of IPSIS.

In his free time, Stephan Klessinger plays violin/viola in chamber music and orchestra, and occasionally, he plays the church organ.
