Gisle Granhus, MDDr. Gisle Granhus graduated from Medical School at the University of Oslo in 1985. He is a board-certified anesthesiologist since 1995. After serving as senior consultant in anesthesiology, he became Head of the Intensive Care Department at Oslo University Hospital (Aker) from 1999 to 2008. He then went over to private healthcare and from 2008 to 2013, he was Chief Quality Physician at Aleris Healthcare Norway, the biggest private hospital chain in Scandinavia.Dr. Granhus has practiced interventional pain therapy since 2007. These procedures are hardly known in Scandinavia and have not been a part of the pain treatment in public hospitals. Because of limited possibilities to learn spine interventions in Norway he has been trained abroad. He is a member of the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society and has found great support and motivation through the organization. The IPSIS Guidelines are the cornerstone in his practice. Since 2011, Dr. Granhus has been a pain physician and owner of the private pain clinic Smerteterapeuten in Oslo. The clinic treats a wide variety of pain conditions. There is no public funding or reimbursement for interventional pain procedures in Norway. Over the years Dr. Granhus has worked purposefully to get interventional pain procedures accepted and more widely used in Scandinavia. In 2018 he was certified as an SIS instructor. |
