Michael Furman, MDMichael B. Furman, MD, MS is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation with ACGME sub-specialization in pain medicine and sports medicine. He earned his BSE and MS in Chemical Engineering from University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University, respectively, and received his medical degree from Temple University.He has been in private practice since 1995 with OSS Health in York, Pennsylvania. He is the founder and director of the OSS Health Sports Medicine and Interventional Spine Fellowship at OSS Health and has trained over 100 physician fellows. Dr. Furman’s clinical practice focuses on evidence-based, outpatient musculoskeletal care, with the majority being spine related. He performs the spectrum of interventional spine and musculoskeletal procedures utilizing fluoroscopic and ultrasound image guidance. Dr. Furman lectures and teaches workshops internationally on various musculoskeletal and related topics. He is a master instructor for the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society (IPSIS). He has received several awards for his teaching, service, and clinical care including the 2020 IPSIS Best Clinical Abstract Award, 2018 PASSOR Legacy Award, 2015 AAPM&R Musculoskeletal Council Service Award, 2006 Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Lectureship Award, and the 2004 PASSOR Distinguished Clinician Award. He is the lead editor and author of Atlas of Image-Guided Spinal Procedures, now in its second edition. He has authored many original publications and chapters. He is an Associate Editor for Interventional Pain Medicine. He has served on numerous AAPM&R, PASSOR, RPC, NASS, and IPSIS committees and task forces addressing non-operative treatments, research, medical education, online learning, membership, clinical guidelines, maintenance of certification, credentialing, billing-coding, finance, and bylaws. He has served on the IPSIS Board of Directors, the AAPM&R Board of Governors and the PASSOR Board of Governors, and was chair of the AAPM&R Resident Physician Council. |
