Mihnea Dumitrescu, MD

Dr. Dumitrescu is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. He graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed a residency in Physiatry (PM&R) at Louisiana State University in New Orleans.
After residency, he pursued a fellowship in interventional pain management and neuroradiology with Charles Aprill, MD, in New Orleans. His one-year fellowship turned into an almost three-year fellowship in New Orleans through the tumult of Hurricane Katrina.

With a heavy heart, he left New Orleans and returned to Austin, Texas, where, several years before, he had finished his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Religion at the University of Texas at Austin.

In 2007, he established Precision Pain Consultants in Austin, Texas, dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of both spinal disorders and sports injuries.

Throughout the years since then, Dr. Dumitrescu has focused on axial lumbar pain of discogenic origin and also the treatment of peripheral joint disorders. This has organically led to regenerative medicine, which is now the main focus of his practice. To reflect the renewed focus, Dr. Dumitrescu renamed his practice Precision Regenerative and Functional Medicine. Although he has not abandoned classical Interventional Pain Medicine techniques, the study of regenerative medicine is Dr. Dumitrescu’s main interest. Platelet-rich plasma, bone marrow-derived or adipose-derived regenerative cells, and mesenchymal stem cells from other sources are all used in his practice and are the focus of his research.

In addition to his primary Regenerative Medicine practice, Dr. Dumitrescu also leads a concierge Functional Medicine practice, which is focused on health optimization.
